Psalms 121:2

3/29/2020

My help cometh from the Lord,
which made heaven and earth.

This is an unpleasant time for families, businesses, churches and governments.  Let us remember where our help truly comes from--the Lord! We are compelled as a church family to come together with prayer for everyone hurting during this Coronavirus outbreak.
We have Biblical examples of suffering with a purpose:
  • Daniel--was placed into a den of lions in Daniel 6.  God protected Daniel, God was glorified, and Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
  • Jesus Christ--was placed on the cross with the purpose of saving the souls of mankind
  • the Apostle Paul--was imprisoned at Rome, but along the prison journey, he was able to preach the Lord Jesus Christ...many believing.  He is now known potentially as the second greatest missionary behind our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
We must remember that mayors, governors, and presidents are making decisions concerning unprecedented events.  If any think that churches are being unjustly judged, please remember these thoughts:
City, State and National budgets are being affected in astronomical ways due to all of the "Shelter in Place" requirements.  These government officials are elected, and generally paid a salary (unless refusing such compensation). It would be unwise for them to place any undue burdens on those who pay their salaries and are responsible for voting them into office.  Romans 13 teaches us to be subject unto the higher powers.  II Corinthians 5 also teaches us that government officials must appear before the judgment seat of Christ. Unbelieving government officials will appear before the Great White Throne judgment.
     What is our response?
  • Faith--the Lord Jesus Christ died, was buried, rose again and has ascended to the Father through the operation of faith.  We need faith for daily living.
  • Wisdom--the Lord promises wisdom to those that ask.  We need wisdom in our response to those around us.
  • Mercy--"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life..." Our purpose should always be that the souls of men would find mercy through the blood of Jesus Christ.
In conclusion...may you find grace, peace and mercy during this Lord's day, March 29th, 2020.
